The safe haven from Alan Wake at the end?
At first I figured it was just a regular lightpost, but the red supply box gave it away.
Nice reference!

I never though a point and click would lead to an 'attack'
good work!
Thanks for playing!!
You continue to amuse/confuse
And that's just the way i like it.
Thank you, wish my voters felt that way too
Love it
You almost lost my interest at the ambient tag, and I was feeling impatient waiting for the song to start until almost a minute through. Worth that wait~
It's a smoothie of all the awesome things i've never took the time to enjoy.
I hope this one makes it.
This is a wicked awesome improvement!
Let me say that the lighting is OUTSTANDING!
From the sands, to the sky, to pretty much everything else, it's really well done.
The shadows are very impressive, only flaw is [and not very noticeable] some of the shadows on the plant directly under your signature are curved weird i'd say. The bottom three are good, but the top two look wacky to me.
I understand how you were trying to bend the shadows in order to fit the spherical shape of the plant, and it probably makes me a hypocrite by pointing this out, [because i'm not a great artist] but that's just what I see.
The "wind" effect that you pulled off is bold, well executed, and adds a great thoughtful feeling to the entire picture. You colored the wind folds in its clothes well.
I freakin love the spool character!
The way he's holding the needle, he looks like a knight.
Character design is undoubtably one of your strong points.
There are some parts that I don't understand or can't recognize.
I don't know what to make of the first plant on the left, or the towering structure, but my first guess for that one was it's a castle.
Thank you, Funky. I'm glad you like Mr. Spool, because this is the first of what I hope to be five pieces depicting his adventures. I figure making a series of images through a bunch of different scenes that I've never really drawn much of should help me practice settings and backgrounds. I'm currently about halfway finished with the second one. "Knight" is an interesting description. I was really just going for an explorer of some sort, but I like that he looks kind of chivalrous like that, too.
It's a relief that you like the lighting, because I worked really hard on that and I was worried it wasn't noticeable or right. The shadows on the cactus in the background are pretty wonky, I'll admit. I was trying to get them to play over the curvature of the cactus, but that's a bit difficult to do correctly. I personally felt like I should have done more with the wind.
As for the background elements (like the tower and the holes in the cacti), I was just trying to add a little bit of enigma to the scene, emphasize how strange the area might seem to the spool. They're supposed to be traces of some kind of civilization.
It doesn't make you a hypocrite to point out flaws! Critiques are what I aim for, after all, and your points are valid whether you're some kind of professional artist or not. Thanks for the lovely review,
Very Nice!
One of the first things I see is the greatly varying color, well done, may I add.
Each of the colored entities gives off a slim amount of light that you can dimly see reflecting off of either Madame Prisme [The assumed main character in this drawing] or the line of bricks, assumably a stone balcony of some sort.
It feels, ambient. And in other places, the mood is confusing.
All the colored entities are smiling in general.
But... [I can't tell if this was done on purpose by the artist or not]
The Red one on the left has the largest grin, while the Purple one on the right has the lesser grin.
Interesting.
In the middle, I can't tell what Madame Prisme is thinking.
Her head is tilted.
Arms are between her lap. [Which could represent many things, from anxiety to depression or maybe even relaxation.]
I become mesmerized every time I look into her eyes, because I can't tell.
The way those... eyes... are separated I could see 4 different expressions.
I'll never know...
It's mysterious, something that i'm looking forward to keep me awake next weekend.
Overall, this is a fantastic work!
Every time I make something, I look back at my work, only to notice the imperfections. But to me, this could hardly get any better.
Good Work and Good Luck!
Sincerely, fratcow.
Thank you for dropping me a review, especially such an extensive one.
The ghosts do have a wide range of moods (though all are at least a bit happy), and I kind of intended for the differing details and shapes around each to represent a different personality behind each color.
The mood was intended to be somewhat ambiguous, though I mostly imbued it with positive feelings. Madame Prisme can seem evil or mischievous or just kind of happy, and her face is supposed to resemble a grin. I generally think of her as being the last of those (after all, she's the spirit of color itself, and color is usually a good thing, especially when it's as bright as she is), but it's up to the viewer to decide what she is. The arms are really more of just a leaning forward position than anything.
I'm kind of surprised that anybody analyzes my drawings to this extent, but I like that. I'm glad you like it!
